Well...
IT'S A BOY!!!
I was in Total shock when the lady said it was a boy. It took me like 45 minutes to digest the fact that we are having a boy. I really wasn't set on having either a boy or a girl, but we were all assuming it would be a girl because they tend to be all any of my family has. I am really excited and really nervous all at once! I don't have much experience with little boys, so this will be all new. I think he is going to be TOTALLY spoiled by my family because everyone has been wanting a boy for so long. My dad had wanted to have 5 boys... they had 3 girls and decided to quit trying. lol.
Everything seemed to be fine at the doctor's office. I weighed 231, so I've gained a total of 9 pounds according to the doctor's office. YEAH! I've actually gained 12 by my scale, but I was happy to only show 9 at the doctor. ;-) My blood pressure was 130/70. The OB said that the swelling was probably nothing to worry about since it went away and hasn't really returned.
The baby was moving around and sucking his thumb during the ultrasound. I still haven't felt him moving yet, but I'm not too worried now since everything seemed ok.
We are in Chattanooga now. We went to the aquarium today and the IMax theater. We enjoyed it, but I'm really tired now.
I'll write more soon.

Two week update - this one's a long one
Ok. So I waited 2 whole weeks between posts. It wasn't intentional, but I have been a tad busy lately.
Last weekend I went to Atlanta with some of our teen foster kids for an ILP event. We left Friday at 1pm and got back to Macon at like 5pm Saturday. I had to work late a couple of days during the week to get some of my work done since I was out pretty much all day on Friday. Anyway, the trip was pretty good. The kids were really well behaved and seemed to have a good time. We didn't get started on time due to how slow the Wendy's was where we let them eat lunch, then we hit Really bad traffic on the interstate. We ended up getting there really late and missing most of the afternoon's events. We were able to go to the Atlanta Hawks vs. Indiana Pacers basketball game that night though. I think most of the kids really enjoyed that and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. We didn't have any misbehaving kids, but we did have a few who tended to wander off and I found myself quick-stepping to try to catch them before they got too far gone. At the end of the night we had one kid wander off to the bathrooms just as we were about to load the bus. I "ran" after him. Then later my coworker (who was in charge of the event) kept saying, "you're pregnant, you can't be running after these kids". I felt like I had to though because it was a really crowded place and noone else had even seen him leave. I was like I'm not THAT pregnant that I'm helpless. My right foot was hurting pretty bad from my shoes by the end of the night though. Also, we ate fast food for lunch and dinner.
Then Saturday we get up bright and early and hit the breakfast buffet at our hotel. It was really nice. They had grits, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, made-to-order omlettes, and then all the other breakfast stuff like cereal, bagels, fruit, and pastries. I didn't have an omlette because that line was too long, but I did have plenty of yummy breakfast that included 2.5 glasses of milk.
We got checked out of the hotel and headed to the Omni Hotel for the rest of the activities. Saturday was 3 workshops, lunch, then closing talks. Well I got with my group into the first workshop and sat down good. Then I looked at my left ankle and saw that it was swelling. I checked my right ankle and it was swelling a little too, but not as bad. I found myself a spot off to the side and propped my feet in a chair. I made sure that I sat with my feet propped (or level if I was sitting on the floor) for as much of the day as I could. I am not sure exactly what caused the swelling. I figure it could be the fast food (salt), the walking/jogging (although I really wouldn't say that I over exerted myself - I didn't move fast for far and wasn't out of breath, which I get REALLY easily), the lack of sleep, or some combination of all of those. I was really a little worried about it because I feel like I'm a little too early in the pregnancy to start swelling.
Anyway, the workshops were pretty good. Lunch was really lame and we were all really done with the whole thing by then. We ended up leaving a little early and getting home almost 2 hours ahead of schedule. I had to drive to Milledgeville to drop one of my girls off and then I was able to get home. It was nice though because I got home considerably earlier than I had anticipated and I was ready to be home. My teen was NOT happy that it was over so quickly because she had been having a good time. I told her there will be more trips in the future.
I came home and rested by propping my feet up in my recliner and then laying down on the couch. I slept like 11 hours that night and just knew that when I woke up Sunday morning the swelling would be gone and I'd be back to normal. No such luck. So then I was beginning to worry a little bit more.
It was Easter Sunday so Tony and I went to my parents church. As soon as we got into the car to go to the service, I started to cough and felt like there was something in my throat. Then I just couldn't talk at all. I could barely get out a whisper. I coughed a lot up to arriving at church and was glad that I brought myself a bottle of water for church. I was ok as far as coughing during church, but my voice was not coming back. My ankle was still swollen and I felt like it needed to be propped up, but I didn't have anywhere to prop it up. Then at the end of the service my parents got up to go sing. I took advantage of that and propped my foot in my mom's chair. By this time my right ankle, which wasn't swelling, was hurting a little for some undetermined reason. So, when I swing my foot onto mom's chair, Tony asks me if I'm ok. Then I just burst into tears. He's asking me if I'm ok and what/where it hurts (I think I really scared him). I was just like "I don't feel good". I think losing my voice on top of the ankle concerns was just more than I could take in my overly hormonal state. I finally got it together after the service ended. I was actually quite embarrassed though. I HATE crying in public! Tony offered to drive home (I always drive us Everywhere) and was very reassuring on the ride home. He was like you are pregnant, pregnant women cry for no reason, it's ok. I really couldn't tell you why I burst into tears at that moment either. I mean I was a tad concerned and felt kind of bad, but it wasn't like I'd been holding the tears back or anything. Who knows.
We had a pretty big crowd at my grandma's for lunch. I sat on the couch and put my feet up and just chatted with whoever happened to be nearby. Tony sat with me. It was funny too because when my cousin and her girls came in they brought their dog, Jack, with them. Well, Jack was really wound up and excited. He came over to my right side (Tony was sitting on my left) and I was going to pet him. Then instead of just putting his front feet up and letting me pet him, Jack jumps into my lap. Well, no sooner had Jack jumped then Tony was across my lap Shoving him off of me! Tony was like "Get Off!" and Jack was on the floor. It was so cute, because it was this really protective nature just kind of kicking in hard. I could tell that he was feeling that nurture/protect mode from the time that I had started crying at church. Anyway, he's been trying to play this thing so cool like he's not really affected by the baby yet, but it shows in the little things.
We had a nice afternoon just chilling and visiting with everyone. My cousin, Debbie, brought her 7 month old daughter and I got to hold her for awhile. She was so sweet and cuddly. I had still been sitting with my feet up while I was holding her. When I gave her back I checked my ankle and the swelling had gone down some. I said it was "baby therapy" and that was all I needed to start getting better. ;-) The girls didn't hunt Easter Eggs this year because they said they were too old. I can't believe they are that old already!
I spent most of Sunday just chilling out and relaxing, but it was over Way before I was ready for it to be. I was not ready to go back to work on Monday. I had some home visits to get done this week so that I could be closer to done with my monthly work before our vacation next week. I think I'm at a good place work-wise though.
We had been having trouble with our cable since about the 4th. I thought it was somewhat weather related since it had been raining so much, but then it cleared up and the cable did not. We had someone come out on Thursday 4/9 to fix it. Well, he did something to increase the strength of the signal coming into the house. That worked for a few hours and then it was back to messing up again. It wasn't quite as bad as it had been before though. Well, it gradually got worse. We called Monday night to have them come back out to fix it. They said they could come out Wednesday between 8am and 10am. Well, the last time they said the same thing and it was exactly 10am when they got here. So, I asked my supervisor if I could work from home doing documentation so that I wouldn't have to miss so many hours. We get one work from home day a month anyway. She agreed and I'm glad she did. The first guy that came out went to the wrong house and when he didn't get an answer, he just left. So after 10am when noone had come or called, I called to ask where my service tech was. They then realized that he had gone to the wrong place. So they tell me they can get someone out after lunch. Well, it's a good thing I was working from home or I'd have ended up missing basically my whole day! Anyway, the guy finally came out about 2pm. At first he said he couldn't fix it because the signal was way too high and he'd have to make a maintenence call. Then he came inside and tested at the wall socket and said the signal is perfect coming out of the wall. So he pulls my cable out that hooks to the tv. Low and behold, the cable was worn through to the wire in several places. It was the part of the cable that had been run under my loveseat (which is where we sit All the time), so he said he thinks maybe the couch was rubbing it and over time wore through the cable. So, he replaced the cable and it is working perfectly now! I was like how dumb was that. If we had actually looked at the cable we would have been able to fix it ourselves 2 weeks ago!
My voice stayed hoarse and scratchy pretty much all week, but at some point Friday or Saturday came back to me. I am glad because I was really tired of having such a yucky voice and I was worrying that I was actually going to come down with a cold.
We planned to spend our weekend relaxing and doing as little as possible. Then we woke up Saturday (late) morning to find that our water had stopped working - again. It had stopped working last Friday too, but then a few hours later it started up again. Tony had been trying to get in touch with some one to try to fix it, but it just started working on it's own. The pump just wasn't pumping the water out so that we could have any water. Well, at some point Tony talked to a couple of different people and they said it was probably that the filter was clogged and if we replaced the filter it would be fine. So, he replaced the filter on Saturday of last week. I knew the filter needed to be replaced, but really didn't think that was the cause since it started back working Before we put the new filter in. Well, when it went out again yesterday, Tony called our builder up and he said it could be the pressure switch on the pump. Tony looked at it and it was all rusty and didn't seem to be working right, however we had no idea how to fix it. So we got in touch with the company that installed the well and luckily they do service calls on Saturdays (for an extra fee, of course). The guy came out and basically just replaced that whole part. Tony watched him and said that he could do it in the future if it happens again and the actual part itself was only $20. So, we now are back running with our water too. I can't believe how many little house things we've had on our 2 year old house in the last 2 weeks! They were very minor little things, but still quite annoying to deal with. I'm glad those seem to be resolved. We have several small house projects that we want to get rolling on soon and those other things tend to side track the planned things.
Anyway, after we dealt with that, we have spent our weekend just chiling on the loveseat mostly. I spent most of yesterday working on our plans for vacation which starts next weekend. I told Tony that I really needed his help to figure out what we wanted to do. He was like, "what do you want to do" and "you're really good at planning, I'll leave it up to you". I was adamant that he help me at least get a basic plan going though. Actually, when he first said "you decide" I said, "then I want to go to Disney!". He was like, "ok", then "we can't go to Disney in a week!". I told him I didn't really want to go to Disney, but it is tempting. It is SO easy! There isn't much planning that has to go into that anymore since we know about all there is to know ;-) although, I haven't been reading the boards religiously anymore, so I may have missed some new secret thing. lol.
So, we are going to go to Chattanooga, Tennessee. I haven't been there in many years and Tony has never been. We will leave next Saturday and stay until at least Tuesday. We may stay another night, but will decide then whether to stay or come home. We are going to do the Tennessee Aquarium, IMax, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Incline Railway. We are also planning to go to this big outdoor Market that they have every Sunday. The weekend we are there is the opening weekend for the Market for the summer. They supposedly have like 350 vendors and will have bands playing all afternoon. I came across it and thought it sounded really cool. I looked and it is less than a mile from the hotel we are staying at. We are going to stay at the Marriott because we wanted to stay somewhere nice and they have a good package deal for some of the things we want to do. We also are probably going to go to Reflections Riding arboretum & botanical gardens. We looked up restaurants and found a bunch of really good looking ones. I made a list and then looked up their locations. Most of the ones we liked the most are within a couple of miles of the hotel. I am excited. I think we will have a nice time. I think we have enough things to do that we won't be bored, but I also think we are leaving enough time to relax and take it easy. I'm ready to leave right now!
We get to see the doctor next Friday and have the ultrasound. Hopefully, the baby will cooperate and we'll be able to see what the sex is!! I'm so excited! I can hardly wait! I'm ready to know. I still don't feel any movement and I've been trying to be aware of any possible movement. I do sometimes feel the baby sitting closer to the front of my belly. At times parts of my belly will feel really hard or weird and I can feel around and there is definitely something there. I can't tell what it is, if it is a foot or head, or just the way my uterus is positioned. That is pretty cool though. I just wish I could feel it moving. I've tried letting Tony feel my belly when there are the little hard lumps, but he says he can't tell and he'll wait until it's obvious. I read online a few other women who were saying that they can really feel the baby moving and sometimes even see the movement on their bellies. They have similar due dates as I do. I guess every baby/pregnancy is different though. I'm not worried, just ready for that stage. I don't think I've really been having any other symptoms or problems lately. I have some pretty ugly stretch marks on my stomach already, but those started pretty early. I try to remember to put lotion on daily, but I don't really believe it will help.
So, that's the last two weeks in a not so small nutshell ;-) I'll try to post again Friday after we see the doctor. :0)

Saturday, April 4, 2009
Well, I had an ok week. I had headaches almost every night though. They seemed to radiate out of my shoulders and up through my neck into my head. I do have some neck and shoulder tension that I usually have, but not that causes headaches that often. I think it is somehow related to the pregnancy. I told my chiropractor about my headaches at my visit yesterday. He agreed with me that I don't necessarily have any more tension in my shoulders than usual. He said that he thinks it could be hormone related. I got another headache last night and instead of sitting up in my recliner like I usually do, I laid down on the couch. That seemed to really help. I told Tony that I think I may just need to lie down more often in the evenings.
I had an uneventful week at work. My caseload is low so I'm just doing the little detail things that I usually don't have time to get to. The kids were out for spring break this week, so I should have started my visits, but I decided not to.
Tony and I still haven't decided what exactly we are going to do on vacation. We both got approved for our days off. I am leaning toward going to Nashville and/or Chattanooga. Tony also mentioned New Orleans, which is a considerably longer drive, but could still be really cool. Neither of us has ever been there. My sister is going to Germany on Tuesday and told me that flights to everywhere are Really cheap right now. I looked around some and there really are some great deals out there. I couldn't believe how cheap it is to get out to California right now! I don't think we will end up flying anywhere though. We were trying to keep this vacation on the cheaper side and when you fly you have to rent a car in addition to everything else. I don't think either of us want to be too active on our vacation either. We want to see some sights but also take it easy. When I go some place far away or that I've never been I always feel the need to try to do Everything. So, it is probably best to stay closer to home (I've also been to Chatanooga and Nashville before).
We have our 20 week doctor's appointment the Friday before our vacation starts. Tony is going to go with me and has already requested the day off. I told him that we can go shopping for baby stuff while we are on vacation too since we will know the baby's sex then! I can't wait to find out.
I went shopping with my mom today. We went to Burlington Coat Factory to look at all their baby stuff. I was amazed at how much they have. It is a bit overwhelming actually. I realize that I really don't know where to start though until I know if it is a boy or girl. We also went to the Motherhood Maternity store. I bought a pair of jeans and a shirt and my mom bought me a shirt. I love all of what we got. I was also hoping to buy a pair of khaki pants, but they only had my size in petite which was a little too short for me. Oh, well. I probably don't really need the khaki pants, but I thought they would have gone nicely with the shirt that mom bought me.
Tony is hanging out with the guys all day today, which means I have the day to do whatever. After shopping though I've pretty much just goofed off online and watched TV all evening. I had planned to organize my filing because it is beyond disasterous, but I just don't want to get started on it tonight. It is going to be a big time consuming project because I have let it go for so long. Watching TV sounds like a much better thing to do ;-)
I had an uneventful week at work.
